“Get Well Soon”: Hansal Mehta Responds After Kangana Ranaut Calls Him “Bitter, Stupid”
Hansal Mehta and Kangana Ranaut engaged in a war of words over Kunal Kamra controversy.
Filmmaker Hansal Mehta and Bollywood actress Kangana Ranaut engaged in a war of words over the ongoing controversy surrounding comedian Kunal Kamra's stand-up act. It all started with Kunal Kamra cracking a joke about Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, and this led to the Mumbai studio where he performed being vandalised and later demolished by the BKC. When Hansal Mehta showcased his support for Kunal Kamra, a user asked him why he didn't speak up when Kangana Ranaut's house was demolished in Mumbai.
To this, the ‘Shahid’ director wrote, “Was her house vandalised? Did goons enter her premises? Did they do this to challenge her freedom of expression or for alleged FSI violations? Please enlighten me. Maybe I don’t know the facts.”
To this, Kangana snapped back, saying, “They called me names like h*****r, threatened me, served a notice late in the night to my watchman and next morning before courts could open bulldozers demolished the entire house. High court called the demolition completely illegal. They laughed at it and raised a toast to my pain and public humiliation.”
She added, “It seems your insecurity and mediocrity has not only made you bitter and stupid but it had blinded you as well, it’s not some third class series or atrocious films that you make, don’t try to sell your dumb lies and agendas here in the matters related to my ordeals, stay out of it.”
Hansal Mehta did not take his post lying down and he had a three-word reply for the 'Emergency' actress. "Get well soon," he wrote.
For the unversed, Uddhav Thackeray-led Shiv Sena's Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) had demolished alleged illegal portions of Kangana's bungalow in Bandra. The incident happened in the backdrop of her war of words with Uddhav Thackeray and Shiv Sena.
Speaking of the Kunal Kamra episode, the comedian mocked Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah during his stand-up act called ‘Naya Bharat’ in Mumbai. The Shiv Sena didn't take kindly to the insult hurled towards Eknath Shinde and acts of vandalism were reported in Mumbai later.
Shiv Sena workers vandalised the Habitat Centre in Khar, Mumbai, where the event was held. An FIR was also registered against the comedian.
