Asha Parekh suggests 'Pathaan' makers to remove "offending portion” from the movie.

Veteran actress Asha Parekh, who had served as the chief of the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) from 1998-2001, has once again weighed in on the controversy surrounding ‘Besharam Rang’, the first song from ‘Pathaan’. Asha Parekh, in an exclusive interaction with The Times of India, suggested the makers of ‘Pathaan’ remove the “offending portion” from the film for the “smooth release” of the upcoming movie. ‘Pathaan’, which marks Shah Rukh Khan’s comeback after the 2018 Bollywood film ‘Zero’, also stars Deepika Padukone and John Abraham.

Opening up about the ‘Besharam Rang’ controversy, Asha Parekh told TOI, “We can’t afford any more flops. I don’t know what the Censor Board says on this. But I am saying, remove the offending portion and ensure that the film gets a smooth release.”

The veteran actress feels that a fear psychosis is being created among the viewers, which can adversely impact the Indian entertainment industry.

She said, “Woh darr ke mare nahin jaana chahte ke pataa nahin kya hoga. In this way our film industry is being killed. It happened with Aamir’s film (Laal Singh Chaddha). It must not happen with Pathaan.”

“Our industry needs a big hit. I have been a part of this film industry for more than 60 years. I’ve never seen a worse recession during my entire career. We must have hits. And to ensure that, we must not allow films to be a victim of the boycott culture,” Asha Parekh added.

For the unversed, Deepika Padukone’s bikini in ‘Besharam Rang’ sparked outrage among several politicians, who urged that ‘Pathaan’ be banned. A sequence in the dance number showed Deepika in a saffron bikini, which led to outrage across India for allegedly hurting religious sentiments.

Recently, the CBFC had directed ‘Pathaan’ makers to implement "changes" in the movie, including its songs, in accordance with board guidelines.

Helmed by Siddharth Anand and produced by Yash Raj Films, ‘Pathaan’ will release on January 25 and the trailer will reportedly be out on January 10.
