‘Dunki’ vs ‘Salaar’ advance booking: Here's how things are looking for both the films.

If you are a movie buff, you are in for a treat this week as two high-profile movies are all set to release in theatres. Shah Rukh Khan, Taapsee Pannu, Vicky Kaushal and Boman Irani-starrer ‘Dunki’, directed by Rajkumar Hirani, will release in cinemas on December 21. Prashanth Neel-directed ‘Salaar: Part 1 – Ceasefire’, starring Prabhas, Prithviraj Sukumaran and Shruti Haasan, will arrive in cinemas on December 22. The distributors of both the upcoming films are battling it out to ensure maximum screens for their movies, and it remains to be seen who comes out on the top.

The advance bookings for 'Dunki' and 'Salaar' opened on December 16, and both the films are witnessing good advance ticket sales. Both the movies are of completely different genres.

As per industry tracker Sacnilk, SRK-starrer 'Dunki' has managed to sell 3,62,027 tickets so far for Day 1, grossing an impressive Rs 10.3 crore. This amount is way less than SRK's previous releases 'Pathaan' and 'Jawan', but looking at the genre of 'Dunki', the number is a pretty impressive one.

For the unversed, 'Dunki' is just releasing in the Hindi version across India.

Coming to 'Salaar', the film has so far sold 5,86,248 tickets across India, across five languages -- Malayalam, Kannada, Telugu, Tamil and Hindi. The maximum ticket sales have been recorded in the Telugu version (3,90,930), followed by the Malayalam version (87,301).

When it comes to the Hindi version, 'Salaar' has been underperforming, as it has sold just 62,986 tickets so far for the opening day of its release.

'Dunki' is Shah Rukh Khan's third release of 2023 after 'Pathaan' and 'Jawan'. Both 'Pathaan' and 'Jawan' had earlier grossed more than Rs 1,000 crore each globally.

In the case of Prabhas, his last three releases (Radhe Shyam, Saaho and Adipurush), have turned out to be box office duds, and the Telugu star is in desperate need of a box office hit.

Earlier, Prashanth Neel had said that no filmmaker desires a clash, be it with a newcomer or a veteran like Rajkumar Hirani.

"Clash is not something you ideally want, be it with a newcomer or with the biggest star of Indian cinema. But it is a very unpleasant situation for anybody to move their date to somebody else's date. We also wouldn't want somebody to move to our date when we have announced it a year before. And we also did not want to do it. But that was a logistical decision that was taken only by the production," Prashanth Neel told The Times of India.
