Prabhas' 'Salaar: Part One - Ceasefire' And SRK’s 'Dunki' Register Their Lowest Single Day Haul Yet
Prabhas’ ‘Salaar: Part One – Ceasefire’ and Shah Rukh Khan’s ‘Dunki’ witnessed a massive drop in their collections on Tuesday.
Shah Rukh Khan's 'Dunki' and Prabhas 'Salaar: Part One - Ceasefire' were looking to emerge as two of the biggest success stories when it comes to Indian movies in 2023. However, it is safe to say that both the new films have not been able to perform as well as the makers were expecting them to. Both 'Dunki' and 'Salaar' witnessed a massive drop in their collections on Tuesday. It remains to be seen how both the films perform going ahead, especially the upcoming New Year weekend.
'Dunki' benefitted from the Christmas holiday on Monday, but the new Hindi film directed by Rajkumar Hirani, which also stars Taapsee Pannu, Vicky Kaushal, Anil Grover and Boman Irani, witnessed a massive drop in collection on Tuesday. As per industry tracker Sacnilk, the Shah Rukh Khan-starrer made Rs 10.25 crore, registering its lowest single-day haul since its release on December 21.
The total earnings of director Rajkumar Hirani’s comedy drama now stand at Rs 140.20 crore nett in India. Worldwide, the film has gone past the Rs 250 crore mark.
For the unversed, 'Dunki' is Shah Rukh Khan's third release of 2023 after 'Pathaan' and 'Jawan'. Both 'Pathaan' and 'Jawan' had made more than Rs 1,000 crore each globally.
Talking about 'Salaar', directed by Prashanth Neel, which also stars Prithviraj Sukumaran and Shruti Haasan, the new Telugu film minted Rs 23.50 crore across all languages on Tuesday and the total domestic nett collection stands at Rs 278.90 crore.
Globally, the film is nearing the Rs 500 crore mark. 'Salaar' is all set to become the seventh Indian film of 2023 to pass the Rs 500 crore mark globally after, 'Pathaan', 'Jawan', 'Jailer', ‘Gadar 2’, 'Animal' and 'Leo'.
When it comes to the Hindi version, 'Dunki' continues to dominate 'Salaar', and it remains to be seen whether the latter manages to cross the Rs 100 crore in the Hindi language.
Earlier, ‘Salaar’ had recorded the biggest opening for an Indian film this year as it made Rs 179 crore on Day 1 of its release globally. The figure was released by 'Salaar' producers Hombale Films.
Prabhas is in desperate need of a hit as his last three releases – ‘Saaho’, ‘Radhe Shyam’ and ‘Adipurush’, tanked at the box office, despite getting a marvellous opening weekend collection.
On the other hand, it is safe to say that ‘Dunki’ would not be doing business on similar lines as SRK’s previous two releases – ‘Pathaan’ and ‘Jawan’.
