Shah Rukh Khan's 'Dunki' Outperforming Prabhas-Starrer 'Salaar: Part 1 - Ceasefire' In Hindi Version
'Salaar' vs 'Dunki' continues to get interesting by the minute.
'Dunki', directed by Rajkumar Hirani, starring Shah Rukh Khan, Taapsee Pannu, Vicky Kaushal and Boman Irani, saw much-needed growth on Saturday, which was the third day of its release. The new Hindi film minted Rs 25.61 crore on Saturday, as per industry tracker Sacnilk. The Saturday collections of 'Dunki' witnessed a 30 per cent jump from its second-day figures.
The three-day domestic nett total of 'Dunki' now stands at Rs 74.93 crore, and the film is expected to cross the Rs 100 crore mark later today. On the worldwide front, 'Dunki' is likely to be near the Rs 150 crore mark.
However, it is unlikely that 'Dunki' will post similar box office numbers to that of SRK's previous releases -- 'Pathaan' and 'Jawan', which had both gone past the Rs 500 crore mark in India.
'Dunki' which has been made on a moderate budget of Rs 100 crore, is likely to achieve a hit tag in India, despite receiving mixed reviews. The Sunday and Monday collections will give a fair idea about its lifetime business in India.
'Dunki' has put up a good showing at the box office looking at its genre and the clash against Prabhas' 'Salaar: Part 1 - Ceasefire'.
Talking about Prashanth Neel's 'Salaar: Part 1 - Ceasefire', starring Prabhas, Prithviraj Sukumaran and Shruti Haasan, the new Telugu film minted Rs 55 crore on Day 2, and the total nett domestic collection stands at Rs 145.70 crore, as per Sacnilk.
'Salaar' saw a drop of more than 60 per cent on the second day. The majority of 'Salaar's collections is coming through the Telugu version while the collections in Hindi are lacklustre, looking at the action genre.
As per Sacnilk, 'Salaar' collected Rs 15.75 crore in Hindi on Day 1 while on the second day, the film collected in a range of Rs 16.35 crore, and hence the Hindi collection is just in a range of Rs 32.1 crore over two days. 'Dunki' is outperforming 'Salaar' in the Hindi version.
Earlier, 'Salaar' had recorded the biggest opening for an Indian film this year as it made Rs 179 crore on Day 1 of its release, globally.
It is also important to mention that 'Salaar' has been made on a massive budget of more than Rs 400 crore, so it needs to be seen whether the new Telugu film can achieve a hit tag or not.
Prabhas is in desperate need of a hit as his last three releases -- 'Saaho', 'Radhe Shyam' and 'Adipurush', tanked at the box office, despite getting a marvellous Day 1 collection.
Prabhas will next be seen in 'Kalki 2898 AD', which is reportedly the most expensive Indian film ever produced. He’ll also star in Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s 'Spirit'.
