2023 truly belongs to Shah Rukh Khan! The Bollywood megastar returned to movies this year after his 2018 film ‘Zero’ tanked at the box office. The excitement surrounding SRK’s comeback reached an all-time high after his cameo appearance in the 2022 film ‘Brahmastra’. And in 2023, King Khan, like a boss, showed everyone how a comeback is done! In January 2023, he delivered a blockbuster hit in the form of ‘Pathaan’, which became the highest-grossing Hindi movie of all time. And he recently returned with his second release of the year, ‘Jawan’, which is already a box office winner.
‘Jawan’, which released in theatres on September 7, opened to good reviews and has shattered yet another box office record with its Sunday collection. The Atlee directorial, also starring Nayanthara and Vijay Sethupathi, achieved the unthinkable on its first Sunday. The new movie collected Rs 81 crore net in India for all languages (Hindi, Tamil and Telugu) as per early estimates reported by industry tracker Sacnilk.
‘Jawan’ had opened in India at Rs 75 crore with 65.5 crore coming from Hindi and rest from Tamil and Telugu versions. It went on to collect Rs 53.23 crore on Friday and Rs 77.83 crore on Saturday. After minting Rs 81 crore on Sunday, the total collection of the film stands at around Rs 287 crore, as per Sacnilk. With this collection, ‘Jawan’ has become the fastest Hindi film to cross Rs 250 crore mark in just four days and is eyeing to enter the Rs 300 crore club soon in India. Worldwide, the Atlee-directorial has already crossed the Rs 300 crore mark. SRK’s new movie ‘Jawan’ has also beaten ‘Pathaan’ and ‘Gadar 2’ with its latest feat.
Sunny Deol and Ameesha Patel-starrer 'Gadar 2' had collected Rs 173.58 crore in four days, while Siddharth Anand's 'Pathaan' starring SRK, Deepika Padukone and John Abraham had collected Rs 220 crore after four days.
'Pathaan' is currently the highest-grossing Hindi movie of all time in India with a collection of Rs 524 crore in India, while 'Gadar 2' is the second-highest grosser. Now, it remains to be seen whether 'Jawan' will manage to leave these two films behind to become the all-time highest-grosser.
Talking about 'Jawan', the movie has been directed by Atlee, and it has been produced by Gauri Khan and Gaurav Verma under Red Chillies Entertainment. It also features Sanya Malhotra, Sunil Grover, Priyamani, Ridhi Dogra, Ashlesha Thakur, Sanjeeta Bhattacharya, Girija Oak, Lehar Khan and Aaliyah Qureishi. The new movie also stars Deepika Padukone and Sanjay Dutt in cameo appearances.
Billed as a high-octane thriller, ‘Jawan’ follows the story of a man set out to correct the wrongs of society.
The film also touches upon issues like government apathy, corruption, farmers suicide, a healthcare system in shambles, faulty army weapons, and dangerous factories set near residential areas.
