Ajay Devgn And R Madhavan's 'Shaitaan' Becomes 2nd Highest Opener For Hindi Cinema In 2024, Collects More Than Rs 15 Crore

Vikas Bahl's 'Shaitaan', starring Ajay Devgn, Jyotika, and R Madhavan has minted more than Rs 15 crore on Day 1.

Ajay Devgn, R Madhavan, and Jyotika-starrer 'Shaitaan', directed by Vikas Bahl, was released in cinemas on March 8 and the movie has opened to a thunderous response. As per trade analyst Taran Adarsh, 'Shaitaan' collected more than Rs 15 crore on the opening day of its release. The new Hindi film had an overall 25.70 per cent Hindi occupancy on Friday, as per industry tracker Sacnilk. With this, 'Shaitaan' has become the second-highest opener for Hindi cinema in 2024 after Hrithik Roshan, Deepika Padukone, and Anil Kapoor-starrer 'Fighter'.

For the unversed, 'Fighter' opened to a collection of Rs 24.60. Shahid Kapoor and Kriti Sanon's 'Teri Baaton Mein Aisa Uljha Jiya' collected Rs 7.02 crore on Day 1 while Yami Gautam's 'Article 370' minted Rs 6.12 crore on the opening day of its release. 

The box office collection of 'Shaitaan' is expected to grow over the weekend, and it needs to be seen whether the new Hindi film manages to go past the Rs 50 crore mark in its opening weekend or not.

'Shaitaan' has sold 1,94,460 tickets for the second day of its release, already grossing Rs 4.91 crore. For the unversed, the advance booking for Day 2 is higher than Day 1, and this is a tremendous sign for the film. 

Ajay Devgn's last theatrical release 'Bholaa' had opened to a collection of Rs 11 crore on Day 1, and the film eventually grossed more than Rs 90 crore in its lifetime. 

'Shaitaan's first day earnings can be compared to Ajay Devgn's blockbuster 'Drishyam 2', which had minted more than Rs 230 crore in India. For the uninitiated, 'Drishyam 2' had opened to a collection of Rs 15.38 crore. 

Speaking of 'Shaitaan', the new Hindi film has been produced by Ajay Devgn, Jyoti Deshpande, Kumar Mangat Pathak, and Abhishek Pathak under the banners of Devgn Films, Jio Studios, and Panorama Studios.

The plot of the film revolves around a happy family and how their lives take a turn for the worse after meeting a mysterious man. The family soon realises that they are in danger and they must fight for their survival.
