Get ready to witness a box office clash for the ages! The release date of Mani Ratnam’s much-anticipated film ‘PS-2’ was announced on Wednesday and it’s all set to lock horns with Karan Johar’s star-studded movie ‘Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahani’. Both the movies are set to arrive in cinemas on April 28, 2023. While ‘Ponniyin Selvan 2’ is a period drama, KJo’s ‘Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahani’, as the title suggests, is a romantic film.

Though the genres of both the upcoming films are completely different from each other, it will certainly be interesting to see which movie the viewers would prefer watching.

Lyca Productions, the production house behind the movie, announced the release date of ‘Ponniyin Selvan 2’ along with an intriguing teaser on Wednesday. (Also Read: Mani Ratnam’s ‘PS-2’ Release Date Announced. Mark Your Calendars!)

‘PS-2’, the sequel to the 2022 blockbuster ‘PS 1’, will feature Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Chiyaan Vikram, Jayam Ravi, Karthi, Trisha, Aishwarya Lekshmi and Sobhita Dhulipala.

‘Ponniyin Selvan 2’ will release in five regional languages Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam and Kannada.

‘Ponniyin Selvan 1’, which became the highest-grossing movie of all time in Tamil Nadu, managed to gross Rs 335 crore in India and Rs 500 crore worldwide.

Based on the 1995 novel series of Kalki Krishnamoorthy, ‘Ponniyin Selvan’ tells the fictionalised story of Raja Raja Cholan and his ascension to the crown. The first part revolved around the early life of Chola Prince Arulmozhi Varman.

Meanwhile, ‘Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahani’ will star Ranveer Singh, Alia Bhatt, Jaya Bachchan, Shabana Azmi and Dharmendra.

Karan Johar's last directorial venture for the big screen was 'Ae Dil Hai Mushkil', which hit the theatres back in 2016. The movie starred Anushka Sharma, Ranbir Kapoor, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Fawad Khan.

After that he helmed Netflix's anthologies 'Lust Stories' (2018) and 'Ghost Stories' (2020).

So, it looks like there is going to be a clash of titans at the box office on April 28, 2023, and we definitely can’t keep calm!
