Yash Confirms He Is Playing Raavan In Ranbir Kapoor, Sai Pallavi’s ‘Ramayana’
‘KGF’ star Yash has confirmed that he is playing the role of Raavan in Nitesh Tiwari's ‘Ramayana’, which also stars Ranbir Kapoor and Sai Pallavi.
‘KGF’ star Yash has finally confirmed that he is playing the role of Raavan in Nitesh Tiwari's ‘Ramayana’. The film will also star Ranbir Kapoor as Lord Ram and Sai Pallavi as Sita. Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter India, Yash said that he was in conversation with Namit Malhotra of DNEG and Prime Focus and it was then that he was told about ‘Ramayana’ for the very first time. The actor said that he was impressed with the passion of the makers. Yash then revealed that it was Namit who asked him if he wanted to be a part of the film and play the role of Raavan.
“If the character is treated like a character… if this doesn’t happen today, then the film won’t happen. To make a film with that kind of budget, you need those kind of actors to come together and work for the project. It has to be beyond yourself and your stardom. We have to place the project and the vision first,” Yash said.
“It’s a very fascinating character. I wouldn’t have done it for any other reason. In Ramayana, if you had asked me, ‘Would you play any other character?’ Probably not. For me, Ravana is the most exciting character to play as an actor so I really like the shades and the nuances of particular character. There’s vast scope to present it in a very different way. As an actor, I am very excited. Hopefully, it’s going to be a very unique approach to it,” he added.
When asked about Ranbir Kapoor and Sai Pallavi being cast as Lord Rama and Sita, Yash stated that Ranbir was already attached to the project when he joined.
“Sai Pallavi, we took a collaborative decision. I believe this film has to have everybody from south and north for it to be a Nitesh ji always wanted Sai Pallavi. I also said that it’s a great choice,” he said.
Yash is now the first actor to officially announce his role in Nitesh Tiwari’s ‘Ramayana’.
For the unversed, the pre-production for ‘Ramayana’ is in full swing. Earlier, a leaked picture from the sets showed Ranbir and Sai Pallavi dressed in their costumes.
The film's team is yet to make an official announcement. As per reports, ‘Ramayana: Part 1’ is slated to release in late 2025 or early 2026.
