Sunny Deol, who was last seen in ‘Gadar 2’, made a shocking revelation that he has been battling dyslexia since childhood.

Bollywood actor Sunny Deol, who made a smashing comeback this year with Anil Sharma’s Gadar 2’, has been in the entertainment industry for over two decades. Sunny Deol made a name for himself in the Hindi film industry after starring in movies like ‘Border’, ‘Damini’, ‘Ghayal’, ‘Darr’ and ‘Gadar: Ek Prem Katha’. After his powerful comeback with the Anil Sharma directorial, he has constantly been in the limelight, be it for his ‘Gadar 2’ success bash, his appearance on ‘Koffee With Karan 8’, shooting for new projects, or his candid statements during interviews.

Sunny Deol is again making headlines for opening up about his battle with dyslexia. In a recent conversation with Bombay Times, the Bollywood actor revealed that he is dyslexic, which is why he gets his dialogue in Hindi and reads them several times.

In his conversation with Bombay Times, Sunny Deol candidly spoke about his approach to acting, dismissing the trend of extensive research that some actors indulge in before portraying a character.

Drawing inspiration from veteran actors, including his father, who did back-to-back films without extensive preparation, Sunny Deol labelled such research as “gibberish”.

He emphasised that, except for biographical characters, he prefers interpreting roles in his unique way without research.

He said, “Dad (Dharmendra) would do two-three shifts, sleep for a few hours and do films back-to-back. Aaj ke din mein koi aise karke dekhe. All this research actors do, I find all this gibberish. Considering this (the time spent doing it), all our films should have been great. Back then, what research did actors do… But they still played their characters beautifully. Characters were based on real life and real emotions.”

Sunny Deol added, “If you are playing a biographical character, then it is different, but even then, in a film like Border, where I played Brigadier Kuldip Singh Chandpuri, I didn’t imitate him. I took the soul of the character and did it in my own way. It’s not like I researched ki woh kaise chalta tha, kya karta tha.”

The actor went on to share that he can’t read and write properly. Sunny Deol also shared that he navigates his dyslexia by receiving his dialogues in Hindi, reading them multiple times to remember and deliver them in the front of the camera.

He further said, “When I am doing a film, I don’t even have the dialogues with me. That is another thing – I am dyslexic, so I can’t read and write properly, and that has been my problem since childhood. Earlier, we didn’t know what it was, and people would think yeh duffer aadmi hai. I always get my dialogues in Hindi, and I take my time to read it. I read them many times and make them my own. That is my prep for the part.”

Meanwhile, Sunny Deol is all set to collaborate with director Rajkumar Santoshi after 27 years for ‘Lahore 1947’, which will be produced by Aamir Khan.

The actor-director duo has worked together in massive hits like ‘Ghayal’ (1990), ‘Damini’ (1993) and ‘Ghatak: Lethal’ (1996).
