‘Gadar 2’ Makes Rs 45 Lakh On Day 40, Will It Be Able To Break Pathaan’s Record?

‘Gadar 2’, starring Sunny Deol, Ameesha Patel and Utkarsh Sharma, was nothing short of a festival when it released in theatres on August 11 alongside Akshay Kumar and Pankaj Tripathi’s ‘OMG 2’. The sequel to the 2001 hit film, ‘Gadar: Ek Prem Katha’, received immense love from the viewers. Several fans reached on tractors to watch the 2023 Hindi movie and many others were seen dancing in theatres after the film ended. While ‘Gadar 2’ may have not received critical acclaim, it emerged as a massive commercial success.
‘Gadar 2’, directed by Anil Sharma, has already become the second highest-grossing Hindi movie of all time and is battling to beat Shah Rukh Khan’s ‘Pathaan’, which holds the coveted title. While it initially appeared that ‘Gadar 2’ might topple ‘Pathaan’, the film is currently struggling to surpass the impressive benchmark set by SRK’s movie, which earned a total of Rs 524 crore in Hindi and Rs 543 crore in all languages (Hindi, Tamil and Telugu).
According to early estimates by industry tracker Sacnilk, ‘Gadar 2’ earned Rs 45 lakh on the 40th day of its release, bringing its total collection to Rs 520.80 crore. Now, it remains to be seen whether the Sunny Deol-starrer will be able to overtake ‘Pathaan’, also starring Deepika Padukone and John Abraham.
‘Gadar 2’ faced tough competition at the box office when Shah Rukh Khan’s ‘Jawan’ hit theatres on September 7. Since its release, ‘Jawan’ has been making and breaking records.
The film currently has a total collection of Rs 507.88 crore in all languages and over Rs 450 crore in Hindi. ‘Jawan’ may soon surpass the record set by ‘Pathaan’.
Coming back to ‘Gadar 2’, the movie made Rs 40.1 crore on its opening day. Despite facing stiff competition from other releases like Rajinikanth’s ‘Jailer’, Akshay Kumar’s ‘OMG 2’, and Alia Bhatt and Ranveer Singh’s ‘Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani’, ‘Gadar 2’ has consistently performed well at the box office.
The first installment of ‘Gadar’, which was also directed by Anil Sharma, was a blockbuster hit in 2001 when it clashed with Aamir Khan’s ‘Lagaan’.
‘Gadar 2’ is written by Shaktimaan Talwar. Besides Sunny Deol, Ameesha Patel, Utkarsh Sharma, the movie also stars Rakesh Bedi, Simrat Kaur and Manish Wadhwa among others.
Set in the backdrop of the 1971 Indo-Pakistan war, the film follows the story of Tara Singh (Sunny Deol) as he goes to Pakistan to save his son (Utkarsh Sharma) from captivity.
